Am I Disciplined?

On page 187 of the Science of Mind written by Ernest Holmes, there is a section that gives us the road to demonstration. It’s pretty simple in its explanation. Anyone should be able to understand it and practice it; yet few do so. It requires the discipline of focusing on what it is you want and turning your thoughts and attention away from what you do not want. “It is simply a question of sticking to an idea until it becomes a tangible reality. The illusion is in the way we look at things.” As I look at the state of the world and our country right now, I can see a vivid example of how a demonstration takes place.

The passage on page 187 continues, “We have looked at poverty, degradation and misery until they have assumed gigantic proportions.” In regards to the recent election and its results, I see exactly how things turned out the way they did (from a metaphysical standpoint). Our entire time, for most of us, was spent on what we did not want, keeping it vivid and alive in our minds and in our reality.

Is there a way out of all this or our we doomed to continue to live in the mess of division that we have created? “Now we must look at harmony, happiness, plenty, prosperity, peace and right action, until they appear.” This statement would appear like spiritual by-passing or airy-fairy, but really it is scientific. People sometimes misinterpret it for doing nothing but daydreaming. This is not the truth. This statement is actually scientifically based and I believe the only way to truly evolve. We must look to cause (mental cause) and change it at that level. Then it is mandatory to take action from that place. We must be for something and bring that something into our everyday experience on the microcosmic level in our own individual lives.

Can we stop talking about what we think is wrong and instead act upon what we know is right – compassion, kindness, self-awareness, self-love, spiritually intentional action? It takes discipline to turn away from the ruminating conversations of doom, especially when we see what we see. However…”We pay no attention to the objective expression, so long as we know we are getting the right subjective recognition. The way scientifically to work out a problem is daily in thought to conceive of it as already being an accomplished fact in experience.”

This is where the discipline comes in. We have to be consistent with a ferocity of spirit no matter what appears. “During the process, many things may happen that appear to be destructive. We may pass through good fortune and bad, but if we can come to the point where we are not disturbed by things we have found the secret.”

I believe this is the only answer to conscious evolution. It starts with each and every one of us. We must look to the cause within each of us and take full responsibility for our part it and then know we can change the trend of causation anytime we decide to do so.

These challenging times are calling us to go deeper. It’s not easy to take on the mantle of Spirit. It is not easy to discipline our mind. However, who’s in charge? “‘Things which are seen are not made of things which do appear. If we can judge in this manner, OUT OF ANY CHAOS WE CAN PRODUCE HARMONY.”

I will do my best today to be disciplined. I will stay in my creative, passionate loving spirit, focus on the good and live it.
