When I was a little girl, I spent much of my time in the world of pretend. I was always creating plays, ceremonies, and re-enacting famous movies or TV shows. I played every role: the writer, the director, and the actor—encouraging my friends to join me in the creative magic. I didn’t know it at the time, but this was my Divine Nature in action.
I believe this is true for all of us. We each have a creative genius moving through us, no matter what we do in life. Whether we’re accountants, artists, or waiters at the local restaurant, we are born with the innate Intelligence of creation.
We mirror the way of Nature—an infinite Source that contemplates itself and brings forth everything: from the intricate mechanisms of plant life to the ocean’s ebb and flow, to the miraculous design of our very bodies. This Creative Force is the Artist’s Way within each of us.
So when I hear someone say they’re not an artist, I know they’ve misunderstood what it means to be one. I recently read a book called Bella Figura, which translates to “making life beautiful.” It tells the story of a woman who spent a year in Italy, embodying a culture of joyful beauty she had lost in a high-pressure, soul-draining corporate life.
We all have the capacity to make life beautiful—from the way we set a table to how we spend time with friends and family.
Yet many of us lose our sense of beauty and artistry when we are out of tune with our true nature. I remember entering my forties and feeling like I’d lost that creative spark. I had set aside the theater in exchange for a more “practical” life—working, raising children, and burning the candle at both ends. Eventually, I reached the end of my endurance for drudgery.
That’s when I found The Artist’s Way. I committed to the 12-week program of daily journaling and excavating the barriers I had built around my creativity. I realized I had been using my life circumstances as an excuse for my own blockage.
Within those twelve weeks, I was back in theater—alive, inspired, and joy-filled. And that made me a better mother, partner, and citizen.
In the Science of Mind, we speak of Creative Intelligence as the Mind of God—our mind, too. It is not a Being outside of us, but the very Presence of the Divine expressing through us, individually and uniquely. Our individuality is the precise point through which Creative Intelligence shines.
The question is: Do we realize this about ourselves? Do we know that our true nature is inherently creative? Can we recognize that we are always creating—whether consciously or not? When we suppress our creative energy, it can manifest in destructive ways. Divine Expression cannot be silenced without a struggle against our very Self.
Today is the day to uncover our genius. Why wait? The world is hungry for more true, expressive genius in action. I invite us all to answer the call to be more of ourselves—to try something new, take a risk, and step boldly into our uniqueness.
Our joy will guide us if we let it. We don’t need to chase after anything—we simply need to open and allow our Divine Circuits to flow. As Emerson so powerfully wrote, “Get your bloated nothingness out of the way of the divine circuits.”
What is that bloated nothingness? It’s the ego mind—the voice that tells us we must control, hold back, or follow someone else’s path instead of our own.
There is something called Divine Discontent—a holy nudge from deep within that beckons us to let go, to make the changes necessary to express more of our God-selves.
Do you hear it calling?
