Ernest Holmes wrote, “We cannot be in peace until we know that the Spirit is the only cause, medium and effect in our lives.” In this one simple statement I am reminded why I might fret, get confused or feel ill at ease. I don’t really believe that Spirit is the only cause, medium and effect in my life. If I did, I would realize that Spirit is all Power; it is Cause and Effect in my life.
But, deep down inside I do believe. It is a matter of choosing to activate the knowing, truly activate it and live it. When things come up that are frightening or confusing, we can remind ourselves of who we are. We can take a breath before we react. We can sink deep within ourselves and remind ourselves “Be still and know that I am God. I am Christ the Son of the living God within me.”
This is not beseeching an outside God. This is settling into the true essence and energy of our being. If the word God is not comfortable for us, use whatever word brings the feeling of truth to us. I love Presence. I love Divine Light. I love the word, God, too. I love the words Power and Magnificence. Whatever rings true and feels right are the words we can use. However, the real knowing is not in the words; it is in the feeling that the words evoke within us.
If truth rings its bell within our soul, we know we have landed. True peace cannot be disturbed by outside appearances. Am I there all the time? Not yet, but I’m working on it. I realize that when I arrive at that place of peace amidst the chaos, I am the most happy and in the most faith and trust.
Today, in the midst of the Holiday rush in getting things done in my personal life and in the life of our Center, I will remember that “We cannot be in peace until we know that the Spirit is the only cause, medium and effect in our lives.” I will remember that Spirit is behind everything. Experiences come and go, but Spirit never leaves me and it guards, guides and protects me at all times. I am the Peace of God right now and always.
Love and Aloha,
Rev. Rita
