You are a Light House

In days gone by and perhaps in countries far from the modern world, there is someone called the Lighthouse Keeper or Light Keeper. I have been thinking about this idea metaphorically lately and I want to share my thoughts.

The definition of the Lighthouse Keeper is one who is responsible for tending and caring for a lighthouse, particularly the light and lens in the days when oil lamps and clockwork mechanisms were used. One of their jobs was to trim the wicks of the lighthouse candle. Trimmed wicks meant that candles burned more brightly and for a longer period.

What I know is that I have a lighthouse within me and I am a lighthouse keeper. So, are you. We are light. Even though we might allow our light to dim at times, we are still light. There is a light within us that can never be extinguished. We might say that others dim our light, but really, we are the ones in charge. We are the ones who hold the match, the candle and the oil. Again, we are the keeper of our own light.

Why do we dim our light? Well, for me, I have dimmed my light in the presence of people I think are greater than I am. I have dimmed my light when I have not followed my heart at times in my life. I have dimmed my light when I have not listened to my own intuition. I haven’t wanted to follow it, perhaps because I didn’t really trust it or thought if I did, I’d make a mistake. There are no mistakes really. Everything is always in perfect time.

We are lighthouse keepers, light keepers, and I believe we are very much needed right now in this world. We are shifting paradigms and an old world is dying. Things seem worse sometimes. For example, we might feel that freedoms are being taken away or more violence seems to be occurring.  There is a pull of darkness.

I believe there is a battle going on right now between the old and the new. Those wanting to hold on to the way things were or even those who think that we should go back to the good old days might not be seeing what’s really happen. We need something totally new now. Well, it’s not so new; it’s really an old way that has ben expressed by the light keepers of days gone by: the prophets, Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, Gandhi, Martin Luther, poets, mystics and more. There are spiritual answers to everything. The answers have always been here. The oil has been here, but we haven’t poured it into the glasses of life.

So, what should we, the light keepers do? Keep on keeping on. Spread more love to those around us. Stay true to our own dreams of love and passion. Inspire others to be their best. Change ourselves when needed, not the world. We are the world.

I believe that there is a new reality being born. It’s all about energy and vibration, about consciousness. Those of us who want to stay in the old vibrational energy will live in one level of reality and new more vibrant energy will create a new reality. We are actually seeing this now, and it is easy to get sucked into the lower vibrations. However, remember, we are the lighthouse and the light keeper. We can keep our wick burning, trim the unnecessary away and burn brighter than ever.

I believe we do this by following the joy, not the pain. Follow our joy and even in the pain we will burn brightly as beacons in the storm. When we are strong, others that might be struggling have someone to look up to. I invite us to be lighthouse keepers.

This is what I feel and know to be so. Investigate your own light house and see what you find.

Love and Aloha,

Rev. Rita
