Yesterday, we made our yearly pilgrimage to the Hindu Monastery with our Sacred Journeyers. There we met Sadasivanathaswami, who took us on an amazing walk through the Monastery and to the Holy Temple. We chanted in the inner chamber and spent our time enjoying the magnificence of Nature in all its glory.
At the end of our journey, the Swami asked, “How would you explain evil to someone?” This seems to be the question we are always asked as spiritual leaders. It seemed he had been asked that question, too, and he wanted to know what we thought about it.
My only answer to this question is that evil is the misuse of the Law of Cause and Effect. There is only one Power. It is Good. It is Perfection. However, we have the choice to use it in any manner we wish, but not without a penalty.
We use it with our mind, which is thinking and breathing as one Mind with all of creation. As we vibrate together, wherever our vibration is we will experience whatever is occurring at that vibration. That is why it is important to keep our vibration in the highest place of Love, Compassion, Joy, Beauty, and Peace and most of all Unity.
Evil is not about evil doers, it is about the consciousness of lack and limitation. It is duality thinking. It is the inversion of a Power that is Good. Evil is the absence of Good. It is done unto us as we believe and the sooner we stop looking at evil and believing in it, it is logical and Law that it will cease to exist in our experience.
I Know that there is one Perfection. It moves through all of creation. If we care to look within ourselves, we will find it there. If we choose to live from that place, we will animate it outward. Ernest Holmes once wrote something like this. “If one only sees unloveliness in others, it is because unloveliness is a strong element in himself. The light he throws on others is generated in his own soul and he sees them as he chooses to see them. He holds constantly in his mind a mental equivalent of unloveliness and creates unlovely reactions towards himself. He getting back what he is sending out.”
Some might want to argue with this, but I think if we truly had the openness to seek to understand this point, we might discover what evil truly is. It is an effect and all effects can change. Therein lies the work for us as individuals to move from duality to Unity.
