We have so many tools to assist us as we walk this earthly plane. Living a New Thought life doesn’t mean we are without challenges. What it does mean is that we have spiritual tools to meet those challenges.
Many of us believe we have only five senses: hearing, sight, smell, taste, and touch. I’m deeply grateful for these five senses—we absolutely require them to navigate the 3-D world. And yet, have you ever wondered how some people who do not have full use of all five still flourish? It is because there is so much more…
We were taught we have five senses… but what if we have many more?
What if intuition is a sense…
What if empathy is a sense…
What if the ability to feel the energy of a room is a sense…
We all have these senses. The more we use them, trust them, and act upon them, the stronger they become. Have you ever had a sense that you should do or say something—a deep inner knowing that isn’t substantiated by anything on the outside? You can strengthen your intuition through meditation and practices like heart-brain coherence.
Then there is empathy, or emotional resonance. You can feel deeply into the emotions of others. You can sense the “vibe” of a room the moment you walk in. This is because we are connected to everyone and everything. There is one Mind, one field—and we are all within it.
This sense, however, requires awareness and discipline. It is not always healthy to absorb the feelings of others indiscriminately. Without grounding, it can become overwhelming and disorienting—I’ve experienced this myself. For example, becoming overly immersed in the news can pull me into the collective field of fear. When that happens, I return to grounding practices: meditation, affirmation, and Spiritual Mind Treatment.
Yet when used consciously, this sensitivity becomes a powerful tool—allowing us to tune into others with compassion and offer meaningful support.
We also all possess innate psychic ability—the capacity to perceive beyond the physical. We can read the subjective field, which allows us to access what we need to know in any given moment. Those we call “gifted” in this area are simply practiced and attuned. They are skilled at reading patterns within the subconscious or subjective realm.
However, it’s important to remember: the subjective field reflects tendencies—not fixed outcomes. We can shift the direction of causation at any moment through conscious awareness.
These abilities are often described as:
- Clairvoyance – inner seeing (images, visions)
- Clairaudience – inner hearing (guidance, tone, words)
- Clairsentience – clear feeling (body-based knowing)
- Claircognizance – clear knowing (instant truth without process)
Again, all of these senses can be nurtured and developed. Each of us may naturally resonate more strongly with one than another.
So why am I focusing on this today? Because inner strength—and the ability to rely on our own inner intelligence—is essential. No matter what is happening in the outer world, this is something that cannot be taken from us. It is our birthright as Divine beings. It is encoded within us.
I don’t want to be pulled in a thousand directions by what is happening “out there.” I want to embody all of my senses, give thanks for them, trust them, and use them fully.
More to come… We’ve got this!
Blessings,
