When Things Look the Worst…

There is a quote by the mystic and teacher Ernest Holmes that states: “When things look the worst is the time to do your best work.” He goes on to tell us to “never deviate from the One,” and then challenge us to “throw ourselves with abandon into the limitless sea of receptivity.” This probably one of my most favorite passages in his book, The Science of Mind. I go to it often when I am feeling a bit in fear about my future or hesitant about making a change in my life.

When I can focus my attention on the knowing that within me is the limitless power of the Universe, when I can actually accept that this Power is guiding my path and bolstering all my creations, I get a resurgence of energy and commitment. I receive the strong message that things don’t always happen quickly, but if you stay on the path and persevere no matter

Whatever is going on in your life right now, my invitation is to focus on your intention for you life. If you do not know what that is or think you’ve tried and failed, don’t look at where you are with dismay or a feeling of failure. Instead, take Ernest’s advice that you are where you are because of what you are, but you do not have to stay there. Just start there. Accept what is reality and then know you can change it. You can change it by believing not in your limitations, but in the unlimited power that is available in every moment.

Ways to make this real is to focus on Nature. It is our teacher. The unexhausitble way that Nature has of replenishing itself and growing again and again is just a reflection of what we are. I heard a quote this weekend from a minister at a New Thought Church. It went like this: “Don’t live in the ashes of the past. Instead, take the torch forward into new possibilities.” The past is only valuable as a teacher. It is not a place that will allow us to grow forward.

“When things look the worst is the time to do your best work.” Your best work is done within yourself – your soul – your mind – your heart, which are all at one with the Great Infinite Potentiality – the UNIVERSE!
