I am so grateful for a philosophy that teaches me about the power of suggestion. Of course, we all have control of what we allow into our minds, but it isn’t always easy to re-channel the things others say to us.
A few days ago, my husband gave a talk about how it was suggested to him at an early age that he would die at 58. He continued to affirm to himself that he was safe and his life was unfolding perfectly, but still the suggestion persisted to haunt him, even until the day before his birthday. Fortunately, his belief in his health and perfection was stronger than the suggestion.
I am thinking of our words and how we use them. In the film Bambi, Thumper says his mom told him, “If you can’t say anything nice about someone, don’t say anything at all.” This is a great rule for our tongues.
Let us affirm everyone’s goodness and perfection. Let us see the highest outcome in all experiences. If we cannot, let us go into our closets and take care of our own thoughts and beliefs before we let our tongues fly out of our mouths with words of doom and destruction and even what we think are “well-meaning” suggestions.
I will do my best to “mind my own business.” In other words, I will do my best to take care of my own business in my own mind. Our mind is our most precious gift. It’s Power creates planets, stars, and universes. Our mind is our use of the One Mind. Let us use our minds well and respect the minds residing in all of creation. We are all connected and the power of our thoughts cannot be denied.
