What Did You Expect!

What did you expect!!! Does anyone remember having someone saying that to you? It would happen right after someone did something either good or bad. We’d say as more of a statement, “What did you expect!” In other words, the person acted in just the exact manner as expected by us. Our outcomes in life are based on our expectations, and until we can change those expectations, little will change. It’s not about changing other people; it’s about changing our own minds.

Life is only consciousness. That’s all it is. Florence Scovel Shinn, the great metaphysician wrote, “Man can only receive what he sees himself receiving.” She was a great believer in the Law of Giving and Receiving, as were all the great prophets, seers and mystics. We must create a mental image of what we want to experience and we must believe that it is already here before we will ever experience it. We must give out in expectations that which we wish to experience.

I have proven this in my own life over and over, and still, sometimes I still doubt. I am learning to immediately turn my mind around. Things do not have to be they always were. Right now everything is already here. Can we expect it? That is the question.

I think that all people really want is peace of mind. The things they wish for sometimes are a means to that end; however, the truth is peace of mind must come first. There must be something within us that can exclaim, “All is well no matter what.”

Last night on one of my favorite T.V. shows, as doom and evil made its way into the atmosphere of the town, the main character, exclaimed, “It doesn’t matter. We are going to win.” She had set the expectation in motion right then with her words. They came with a calmness and peace of mind. She knew the outcome despite what she was seeing.

Whatever is going on in our lives right now, we can have the same peace of mind. We can know that, all is well. We can know that we are safe. We can know that we will win, that we have already won. We can know this because beyond and behind everything, there is a Perfect Life Force that is always whole and leads everything in the direction of that Wholeness. We can always expect the perfect manifestation of our lives; but we must expect it, see it, live it in action.

The next time, we say “What did you expect!” let us know it is because we are experiencing the greatness of our expectations, the natural result of a mind stayed on truth.
