One of our members is in California at Encinitas Center for Spiritual Living and he sent me this quote from Ernest Holmes that he saw posted there: “The biggest life is the one that gives the most, loves the most, has the greatest understanding and the greatest consciousness of Eternal Good, and redistributes that Good to the greatest number of people.”
Yes, there is a Power within each of us that is seeking a life through us at all times. It lives at the level of our recognition of it. Life is here and as Florence Shinn puts it, we are “pulling the strings at all times.” We get to decide how we are going to live, not by what happens to us but by how we respond in every moment.
If we think that stars govern us, or that we are doled out a life by the number we were born under, or that what so and so does is what determines how our day is going to go, we have entrapped ourselves or as Ernest Holmes would put it, “hypnotized ourselves” into believing that we have no control of our own minds and hearts. We have worshipped demigods.
This week I fell into the trap for a moment. I began to allow myself to be dragged down by conditions that seemed very real. I turned other people into my demigods. However, finally after I’d had enough, the moment of surrender came. It is surrender that turns my life inward. It is the moment when I realize that there is nothing that I, Rita, can do. I’ve done my part.
We are bound because we are first free. Freedom comes because we can choose in every moment how much of Life we allow to live through us. It all begins within and nowhere else. When will the darkness leave us? When we can see in the dark. I saw in the dark this week.
My agreement with the Universe is for me to allow it to live through me. My part in that is to open up and let go. My part is to recognize the good, to give gratitude and to walk the path of perfect faith. “Faith is substance.” It is believing when you can’t see it. It is knowing that you are always cared for, taken care of and walking the right path for you.
“The biggest life is the one that gives the most, loves the most, has the greatest understanding and the greatest consciousness of Eternal Good, and redistributes that Good to the greatest number of people.”
Notice that it begins within. We cannot redistribute something we do not have first. My journey is to continue to grow and to not get trapped in the past. It’s okay if I fall off for a moment, as Thomas Paine put it, ““We have it in our power to begin the world all over again.”
