Why do I write? Why do I sing? Why did I begin the journey of starting this Center for Spiritual Living, anyway?
We are nearing our 4th birthday here on the Island of Kaua’i. We are celebrating with a party next Sunday. We are performing a Cabaret the following week. We are holding a silent auction and a fundraiser. It is a lot and I’m asking myself why?
There is only one answer and it’s not about raising money or promoting the church or even giving myself the opportunity to perform. It’s about growing. It’s about expressing God. It’s about creative expression. We are each creative beings and we must create or perish. It’s true. I do not care how old we are or what is going on with us physically. Creativity is what we do. Life creates from itself in every moment. When we find a direction and flow for that creation, it is better than if we just let it go willy-nilly (as Ernest Holmes would say).
I give thanks today for all the other beings, beginning with my husband, who have partnered with me in this particular creation. There are so many, I can’t mention them for fear I’ll forget someone. However, what I can say is that they give selflessly and with passion. I am so grateful.
And as far as the Cabaret is concerned. Right now the ticket sales are low. I was fretting about it for a while, threatening myself to cancel a performance. This morning I woke up with a whole new feeling. I’ll sing for 15 or I’ll sing for 600. It doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is that we create and that those coming are somehow inspired and uplifted by what we create – that it gives them the push to create, too.
We are infinitely supplied and we should never let finances hold us back from our true creative expression. The most important thing I ever learned in my spiritual journey is to not lump my livelihood with what I do creatively. Create and know that I’m infinitely supplied has always been my motto and it works.
Today, I create. I turn my creativity over to the Spirit that flows through me and guides and directs the way. I know that just the perfect people are here with me in this creation and that all benefit. The highest good of all is at hand right now.
