How long will we tell our stories? Everyday, I hear stories of days gone by – of parents who treated us poorly, of ideas that we adopted about money and freedom because of something someone said when we were growing up, stories of abandonment that cause us to not be able to commit to love. There are so many stories; many more than there are people.
I’ve told a lot of stories throughout my life. I’ve even admitted that a certain story causes me to feel a certain way about money and success. I’ve told the story over and over until one day I realized that I had become my story. My story had become my life. I realized that I needed to do a re-write. I needed to create a new story for my life that was scripted from old ideas, characters and plot twists and turns. I needed to start fresh. I chose not to live that story anymore. I chose.
There was a statement from the Science of Mind reading today that goes like this: “Know your own mind. Train yourself to think what you wish to think; be what you wish to be; feel what you wish to feel; and place no limit on Principle.”
What is Principle? It is God or Spirit working through Law. It is the truth that “it is done unto us as we believe.” It is unlimited. We are the only one who limits it and we limit it by hanging onto our stories and allowing them to take up space in our minds and define our present.
We cannot change our stories. They are over. They are past. They might have created our state of mind, but only because we decided to believe them. We can stop believing them right now. We are not subject to our stories. Right now, in the present, we have the ability to release those stories and those people, give thanks for them or not, and bring ourselves into the realm of unlimited potential in the present moment.
If we want to think it is difficult, we can or we can choose to relax and let go. It might seem scary, and for a moment we might feel like we are suspended in space, with nothing to hold onto. However, if we allow ourselves to fall, I know we are caught and a new story will begin – an unlimited one.
Love is always here for us. It is who we are. Ernest Holmes once wrote that “…ultimately we will realize that the Universe rests on the shoulders of love.” This is the most comforting and transforming statement I’ve heard in a long time.
We are free to let go because it is all love – even our stories. Those stories, even the negative ones, have caused us discomfort which in turn has called us to something more. The love that is within cannot be denied. It is real and is always making itself known until we ultimately accept it. There is no escaping our true identity.
Saying that we cannot release our stories is like saying that we have no control over our own minds. We do, and we do get to choose. Today, I am a new story – an unlimited one. I am a love story with a new beginning into a happy present.
Love and Aloha
