Using Time Creatively

I am knowing that everyone is safe and ready for whatever Hurricane Lane brings our way in the next few days. The roads are quiet, almost empty around here in Kapaa. The schools are closed. The bank even closed today. I saw a few people board up their windows. I wondered about that, because what I’ve heard and continue to here is that the only real threat is rain, rain, rain.

Well, it’s been quite a few days of just waiting for something that could or could not happen. After preparing for the hurricane, I’ve been keeping myself busy getting ready for Sunday and doing my normal church business ahead of time, in case of an electrical outage. So, here on Kaua’i, we are still waiting.

This kind of experience makes one realize that you have a choice of how you are going to spend your time. Waiting can mean a lot of different things to different people. I’m sure it gives one an opportunity to see what we are made of in the way of how we spend our time, when no one is telling us what to do. When there is time to spend, how do we spend it? We always say we are too busy for this or that, but when we’ve actually been given the time like we have been today, what are we doing with it?

I’ve decided to create a sabbatical day for myself. This means that today, I get to be creative in any way I choose. Spirit is creative you know. In fact, Love is defined as the “self-givingness of the Spirit through the desire of Life to express Itself in terms of creation.”

We are always creating, and, we are creating according to our own unique expression. What are we creating? Today, will bring new expressions into being for me, I am sure. Meditating, journaling and being in the moment, opens up my windows to the Universe.

It’s interesting that I would have to wait for a hurricane to focus on my own creativity. Of course, I am creative everyday. I can’t help being so, but am I just doing what I have to do or am I really being creative?

For me, this would me, digging into my passion spot and asking what it wants to express right now. Do I want to continue on my book? What about singing? What about paintings that I’ve put off? What about this and what about that? So much to think of.

My question for the day is are you truly living as a conscious creative being? Are you just doing things and completing tasks or are you really allowing yourself to be the “self-givingness of the Spirit through the desire of Life to express Itself in terms of creation.” Creating from Love.

Of course, we can say we are always creating. Yes, we are; however, conscious creation is what we are really about. Using our minds backed by our heart’s desire is what we are really about. That is how the Center for Spiritual Living Kaua’i was born, out of that passion. That’s the passion I am in touch with today, the one that comes from deep within that fuels any dream. It must be nurtured, nourished and allowed to flow out.

Let’s put this hurricane waiting period to good use for ourselves, and let it remind us that we do not have to wait for a hurricane to open up to our creativity.

Love and Aloha,

Rev. Rita
