Yesterday in honor of the Fourth of July, my husband, Patrick and I watched the musical film “1776.” I am so glad we decided to watch it. I’d never seen it before and it was inspiring and fun and serious at the same time. Of course, it got me thinking about our Founding Fathers and what they went through to begin the process of being freed from tyranny. The Declaration of Independence was just the beginning of a long and hard struggle for independence.
In the film, the Continental Congress argued the decision for independence from the Crown. They were about to vote on it, but they decided that they could not go forward until they had a declaration. What does independence mean to us and why do we want it? Thus the Declaration of Independence was written.
I am thinking about this in regards to my own life. There are a lot of things I say I want. There is a way I want to live. Yes, I want to be free – free to live in abundance, free of the constraints of race consciousness, free of discord, etc. Have I written a declaration? Why are these things important to me? What exactly am I free myself from? What is freedom?
This morning in the Science of Mind on page 554 there is a “Treatment to Heal Confusion and Discord.” Reading it, I realized that every time we give a Spiritual Mind Treatment on any subject, we are giving a declaration. A Spiritual Mind Treatment is a Declaration.
The reason this reading this morning touched me deeply.
“I know there is a Spirit in me which unfolds Itself to me and I know that this Spirit – or Infinite Wisdom and Divine Love and Perfect Law – enlightens my consciousness and awakens within me, with the personal, the knowledge of its meaning, the realization of Its Presence, and the power of Its Law.”
Dr. Holmes goes on to write that this Spirit is as real to us as we allow it to be and when we do we are enfolded in perfection because this Spirit, the REAL you and me, does not know anything but perfection. It is not subject to the world of form. It creates the world of form according to that perfection. It is perfect Freedom from all discord, lack, limitation and disease.
What a Declaration that is! This Declaration is available to all of us because we are all Spirit, the Universe, personified as us. Everything is available to us under this Principle.
So, today, I invite us to announce, write, state our own Declaration. It is time to not just say I want this or that, but to Declare who we are – Gods, Infinite Beings, Love and Law. This is our True Self, the Real.
Dr. Holmes wrote, “It is the Real Me that I seek to vision in my thought, that I seek to embody in my consciousness. It is that ME that cannot be sick, knows no lack, has no limitation, never suffered want and cannot experience fear.”
This is most definitely a perfect Declaration for this time of challenge in our world. May the Real ME step forward.
