Comfortable in the Uncomfortable

It is becoming very obvious to me that I need to become comfortable in the the unknown even though it feels uncomfortable. Can we feel comfortable being uncomfortable? What does it mean to feel comfortable? “Free from stress and anxiety…secure…feeling of ease…”are just some of the words that define “comfortable.” This being the case, can we feel comfortable in the unknown if it is uncomfortable? My answer is “yes.” However, that yes comes with constant practice.

There is a lot of unknown in my life right now. Our Center is on the brink of its next step. My life is a bit unsettled in many areas. There is a lot to do and a lot into which to grow and expand. Everyday, I ask myself “What is mine to do today…to be?” The answers change, but one thing remains constant. “I need to step into total trust and faith in the unknown, while at the same time, knowing that my life is always unfolding perfectly.

Someone said something to me this week that was said to him. I’m paraphrasing, but it was this “I will always be taken care of in all ways.” His feelings of comfortableness surrounded finances. This idea of knowing that we are always taken care of in all ways, I’m sure is a desire for all of us. We want to feel safe, secure, free to express life.

However, going back to my first question holds the answer. “Can we feel comfortable in the unknown, when it can be a totally uncomfortable place to be?” Yes, we can. I felt it this morning. The unknown is the place of power, of creation, of complete safety because in this moment, we have the power of choice. We can decide moment by moment, by moment, how we are going to feel in every moment. The feeling that is the most powerful is the knowing that we are creating those moments. When we are in the unknown we get to choose what’s next. We get to choose, perhaps not the specifics, but the feelings we want to experience. The experiences will come forth from those claimed feelings.

If we want to feel secure, we must feel secure in the unknown. If we want to feel safe, we must feel safe right now no matter what. There is a guiding Force within us that is paving the way for us; however, we have to give ourselves over to It, while at the same time listening to the nudges and pushes and pulls we get. No one can tell us when or where to move or how to act. It’s up to us and it starts in the unknown.

Our heart will lead the way to our common sense, not the opposite. I start my mornings now getting in touch with my heart. I do my best to keep myself anchored in that place, and to let go of everything else. I accept the unknown as my place of comfort and even though I am uncomfortable, at times, I know that if I can turn to that Guiding Force within me, It will lead the way in each unknown moment. As I said, it takes practice being comfortable being uncomfortable.
