“I Set My Own Tone”

“What will this day be like, I wonder,” sings Maria Von Trapp in the Sound of Music (the film). Today, I heard the answer to this question, given by Esther Hicks in a short video: “I set my own tone.” I love this affirmation.

“I set my own tone” means I get to decide how my day will be. I get to set my vibration to attract what it is I want to experience in my life. Esther Hicks was bold enough to say if we raised our vibration high enough, we would only attract the good. That we wouldn’t find ourselves in precarious situations. It would be impossible. I believe this to be true. I have experienced it. It gives me the answer as to why I can be in the exact same situation as someone else and experience it completely differently. “I set my own tone.”

I remember a story my husband often told. He was very young and angry about a job he had. It was early in the morning and he set his tone as resentment and anger. He was not conscious he was doing so. He was what Ernest Holmes would could “ignorant.” He didn’t know about setting his own tone. So, he wanted a coup of coffee. Something within him told him not to go in that direction. Leave the coffee alone for now. It was his intuition, but he was defiant. “I’ll do whatever I please.”

The next thing he knew he found himself in the middle of a mugging. He escaped with his life. The second part of the story, was that he changed his tone midway through. He surely wasn’t going to die there. Things shifted in the moment, as he made a definite decision, and the situation resolved itself mysteriously. Well, not so mysteriously, if you consider the Law of Attraction. “We can change the trend of causation in an moment we decide to do so,” wrote Ernest Holmes. He set his own tone.

The reason this is resonating with me today is because I think sometimes we are trying to escape “bad things.” We hope we won’t get into an accident, or we hope we won’t catch that cold, or we hope our money situation will turn around. We are constantly hoping, but we are not knowing that it is all about our vibration. What Esther Hicks and other New Thought teachers are trying to tell us is that we are in charge of our reality. When we begin our day with meditation, affirmations, high quality reading, Spiritual Mind Treatment or whatever it takes for us individually to set our own tone, our day will progress accordingly.

Of course, it is not always guaranteed. If we are not alert, we can we have slip ups. Yes, but we will be more consciousness and we will know that we have missed our mark. We will know when we have fallen off our vibration. The more we practice, the better we get at this.

Today, I affirm, “I set my own tone.” It is more than just words because I have done my prework. I have meditated, Treated and uplifted myself. As I affirm this, I expect to have a phenomenal day. I expect to attract the exact equivalent as the vibration with which I choose to resonate. “I set my own tone.”
