“Out Beyond ideas of wrong doing and right doing, there is a field. I will meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass, the world is too full to talk about language, ideas, even the phrase ‘each other’ doesn’t make any sense.” Rumi
Last night at our Wisdom and Chocolate discussion*, a question was posed. “I don’t understand what you mean by “a place that has never been touched by anything.”
This is a great question and one that intrigues many of us. How can there be a place within me that has never been touched by anything, when I’ve done this or that or suffered this or that? What is this place?
The answer is really quite simple, but now so simple to explain because it can only be felt. As I felt into the question, what came to me is the knowing that, in essence, it is not really a part of me, but it is all of me. It is my Spirit. In the Science of Mind, Ernest Holmes would call it the “Changeless.” We are the Changeless, but constantly creating forms or experiences from that place. Those are the outward manifestations of our choices and beliefs. However, beyond all that is pure energy. Dr. Joe Dispenza would call it “the Field” or “the no one, no thing, no place.” The best way to describe it is pure energy that has no form.
I can also describe it as our “Ideal Self,” beyond our personality. Our personality is the beliefs, the perceptions, and the way we walk in the world. Beyond that, is something that we are born from and return to when we die. However, we do not have to wait until we die to acknowledge this place. We can live there anytime we are willing to let go of the conditional world and step into the present moment (that has never been touched by past or future).
So how do we travel to this “field” and how do we live from it? This is the question that most of us would like to answer. As long as I am clinging to my wrongs and rights and should’s and could haves’, I can never get there. The only way to reside in this place is to surrender and detach from any idea of myself besides love.
I know it is possible, but I also know that it is difficult because the conditional world seems so real to us. It is what we can touch and feel. This untouched space can only be felt. It is the unseen. “If the invisible passes into visibility through our faith in it, then it seems this would be a good place to start. Can we at least just make an attempt to say I am willing to believe in this place, to have faith in it as my true identity?
When I sat in meditation this morning, I experimented. A lot was going on in my physical body, but I just kept letting go and focusing on being present. I felt that place. It was REAL.
Why is this so important? I think our evolution as a species depends on our ability to raise our consciousness from judgement, wrongs and rights to a place where true creation can take place without the weight of the past. As long as we hang onto what has been and try to work from the energy of that, we can never create anything new. It has to begin with each of us as individuals.
There is a place within each of us that has never been touched by ideas, conflict, anger, or any other life-threatening emotion. It is easily reached through making a decision to be willing to drop everything and let go. The only way I know to get there is through practice, meditation, and then bringing it into our daily activities. Yes, it is a feeling and must be felt, but it also must be given a practical application in our lives.

*Wisdom and Chocolate is an event at CSL Kaua`i that takes place on Wednesday nights. It is a time to pick a Science of Mind or New Thought concept and have a discussion. At the same time we are sharing ideas, we are sharing some delicious chocolate.
