“Today is new, and I am newly awakened in it. I believe with dauntless faith that my good, in full measure, comes to me from God today.”
— Ernest Holmes
In our faith and philosophy, we often say that “God is the source and substance of our supply.” What do we mean by that? There is no outside God bestowing supply on us or to us, so what are we talking about?
Let’s go back to the first premise of Science of Mind: God is everywhere and in and through everything. God is not a man on a cloud. God is the Presence—the Divine, Infinite Presence—that expresses as a flower, a cougar, or a person. God is everything. God is also Good. The Infinite Presence knows nothing outside of Itself; It is goodness, light, and love.
The question is: do we have faith in this? Do we believe it? Everything is belief. “God is the source and substance of my supply” means that my supply—my good—comes from everywhere, and I cannot determine where it is coming from. I simply trust that it is here.
Here’s a concrete example: We recently faced a very difficult financial challenge in our Center. We kept looking for the solution to come from a particular source. Then we had to stop and remember that God is the Source and Substance of our supply—and that good comes from everywhere, through everything. We repeated this to ourselves, contemplated it, meditated on it, and affirmed it until we believed it. We let go of that one expected source and opened up to the unlimited ways good can come. This shift opened the flow, and the challenge passed just as quickly as it had come.
When we can live in the unknown, trusting the flow of Source Energy—God—moving through us, we can move through any challenging time or condition. Effects are effects, and they are temporal. God is timeless, eternal, and ever-present, in and through everything, always supplying Its creation. Just as a bird flies effortlessly on the current of the wind, so we can create ease in our lives by relying more fully on the One Power.
