The Solace of the Mind: Realizing Our Divine Freedom from Limitation

“It is solace to the mind when we come to understand that all human limitation, from the standpoint of the divinity within us, is unnecessary.”
Ernest Holmes

We all seek wholeness and peace—and yet, we often spend much of our time chasing the dangling carrot or the golden ring that always seems just out of reach. Ernest Holmes reminds us that when we awaken to our Divine nature, we discover that limitation is only an illusion. From the standpoint of Spirit, limitation simply cannot dwell in the same house.

It’s a difficult lesson, and many of us never quite reach that place of solace. I feel sadness about that—and yet, I know that no one is ever truly lost. The journey of awakening is eternal.

Lessons from Abundance

In recent weeks, my husband and I have been taking a class on abundance with the magnificent Dr. Michael Beckwith. I admit that at first I thought, “Really—one more abundance class?” But obviously, I needed it—or I wouldn’t have enrolled.

The difference in this class lies in the deep realization that abundance is an inside job. Dr. Michael—what I like to call an “activator”—has a gift for awakening understanding at the level of consciousness.

Yes, I have studied and practiced the Science of Mind for many years, but somehow this class arrived at the perfect moment for me to truly embody the Principle of Abundance—free of human limitation. My new affirmations, “All I need is within me,” and “All my needs are always met,” have taken on new life.

As I’ve practiced these Principles, I’ve seen a remarkable shift—not only in my physical circumstances but in my inner peace. The struggle around abundance has dissolved into quiet confidence.

Living the Principles

Spiritual Principles are not human inventions. They are Truth.
And it is only through practice that we come to know them deeply.

Words are powerful, but without embodiment, they remain ideas. The Principles of Oneness, Unity, and Abundance require action and awareness. It’s not enough to hear Truth—we must live it.

You might ask, How do I practice the Principle of Oneness?

For me, it begins in meditation. I sit with the idea until I can feel it in my bones and breath. Then I look around and recognize it in everyone and everything I see. Am I perfect at it? No. I fall off the Oneness wagon sometimes—but when I do, I feel it. My peace dissolves, and I slip back into the rut of limitation.

Seeing the Universe as It Is

When Dr. Beckwith spoke of Spiritual Principles as absolute Truth, he struck a chord in me. Many people think of these Principles as idealistic or abstract. But let’s look at the Principle of Abundance.

The Universe is abundant beyond measure.
The ocean, the forests, the grains of sand—everywhere we look, abundance reveals itself with ease.

So why would I believe that abundance applies to nature but not to me? If I truly practice Oneness, that thought becomes impossible. I am one with everything.

Becoming a Living Example

I want to be a person who proves these Principles—not by accumulating more things, but by living in the “solace of mind” that Ernest Holmes describes.

If that peace becomes my state of being, nothing else will matter. I will live in the steady rhythm of the Universal flow—grateful for each breath, each experience. Peace of mind will be my natural state.

Yes, human limitation is an illusion—something we’ve inherited through conditioning and protection. Often, our parents taught us not to want too much, in hopes of shielding us from disappointment. But the truth remains: there is enough for everyone.

A Call to Begin Now

Perhaps we can begin right now—by teaching our children through example. Let’s nurture their dreams with affirmative words and demonstrate through our own lives that everything is possible.

There’s no better time than now, when so many are struggling and feeling lack. Our willingness to give—not only from our means but from our consciousness—has the power to transform everything.

Closing Reflection

When we come to know the Divinity within us, the illusion of limitation falls away. The solace of the mind arises not from acquiring more—but from remembering that we already are more than enough.
