Opening New Doors – Day 20 – The Door of Embodiment

What does it mean to embody something? According to one definition, embodiment means “experiencing life through bodily sensations and integrating that felt sense with the mind, dissolving the mind-body split.”

When it comes to manifestation, it is impossible to demonstrate a new idea in form without embodying that idea. As Ernest Holmes reminds us throughout Science of Mind, “Spirit creates by becoming the thing it makes.”

Embodiment begins with a mental acceptance of our desires. Can we truly accept the life we say we want so deeply? Can we not only envision it, but live it—here and now? I remember when we studied this concept in class, one student asked, “How can I embody a car?”

It’s not about becoming a physical object or fixating on the thing itself. It’s about embodying the idea behind the form. For example, if we needed a car and were struggling to acquire the money or the vehicle, embodiment would involve feeling the qualities that having the car represents. That might include freedom of movement, ease, or a sense of affluence. Instead of focusing on the impossibility, we would sink into the possibility.

Ernest Holmes wrote, “How much life can anyone experience? As much as he can embody. We are so constituted that we can continuously increase our embodiment. We grow in grace, as it were. We grow in power, and theoretically there should be no limit to that growth.”

Holmes also taught that we cannot separate life from living. So, if you desire more peace—live peace. If you desire more love—live love. If you desire greater financial abundance—live affluence. Accept that the Law of our being always answers yes to what we have embodied.
