The answer to Dr. Holmes’ question lies in the freedom of choice that we each possess.

I once had a friend who said that if we did not manifest the things we desired, it was more than likely because, somewhere within us, we felt we did not deserve them. Are you one of those people? I know I have been at times. I have experienced low self-esteem and other forms of conditioning that have nothing to do with my true nature—or yours.

Ernest Holmes reminds us, “Whomever you are, be proud; you are a Divine Idea in the Mind of God.”

There is a Universal Law of giving and receiving, and some people struggle with this idea. They are generous givers but have great difficulty receiving in return. At the root of this struggle is our willingness—or unwillingness—to accept our Divine birthright, to accept our own magnificence.

Do you feel that you deserve the joy and pleasure of life, or do you secretly carry feelings of guilt or unworthiness? Many of us were taught that feeling good about ourselves, or fully enjoying life, is somehow wrong or selfish. As a child, I remember saying, “Speak but the word and my soul shall be healed, and I will be worthy to receive you,” in reference to Holy Communion.

Yet giving and receiving is the Law of the Universe. Let us not short-change that Law on either side. Each is necessary for wholeness. One cannot exist fully without the other.

Affirmation:
Today, I open the door of worthiness. I no longer question my right to receive.
